In this level , students will learn to sing in detail ragas like Kalyanavasantham and Suruti. In this they will train to sing raga, thanam ,niraval and swara prasthara in at least two speeds. In self study they will listen to and decode the swaras of the tiruppugazh in kuntalavarali and also notate the same. Here the students will also be taught to sing viruttams in different ragas according to the meaning and emotions of the verse.

Objectives

For a Masters course, content mastery will be approached with a big picture idea. Independent learning by the student with guided listening will be the prominent pedagogy. The 3 compositions chosen in this course CV404 are in Janya ragas. The compositions are nadaloludai- Kalyanavasanth,Ra ra rajeeva in Mohana and a Tiruppagazh. Student is taught raga, kalpana swara and niraval in these ragas, also introduced to viruttam singing. 

 

Learning outcomes :

After the completion of CV404 the student should be able to perform at high level proficiency:

 

Sing the ragas Kalyanavasantham   and Suruti in detail along with   Thanam, Niraval and Kalpana swaras in two speeds.

Be able to decode the swaras of Arumugam ( tiruppugazh in Kuntalavarali )  and also notate the same.

Student should be able to sing viruttams in different ragas according to the meaning and emotion of the verse. 

Those who have completed the CV403 from the Academy. Those who have trained in Carnatic music for at least 8 .5 years and a strong foundation of Varnams, Kritis and singing kalpana swaras and alapanas as well as been introduced to Ragam, thanam and Pallavi singing.
